A Round of Golf: 5th March ’11

Date: 5th March 2011.
Course: Wolfedale Golf Course, Charminster, nr.Dorchester.
Distance: 5467 yds.
Conditions: Sunny and cold, light wind.

A return to the same venue as the previous week in far better weather conditions. We expected to make up a lot of ground on those scores, without having to brace ourselves against biting cold wind or hail!

Debrief

As expected we both improved on last week, unfortunately it was nothing like the improvement we expected. There is one simple reason for that:  Neither of us could get on the green.

We could both reach the green fairly easily, it was pleasing to see after the trials of last week, but chipping on and putting out were very difficult. We both struggled massively – more practice required. Net result being we only picked up 4 shots each on last week.

I’d lost 2 on the front 9 (not bad because my front wasn’t actually that bad last week) and then picked up 6 on my awful back 9 from before. I’d hoped to match the front and pick up ten on the back. Time without number I’d reach the green in 3 or 4 shots and then spend another 3 or 4 just putting around the green. Two things to improve here:  getting on to the green closer to the pin in the first place, and getting the putts into the hole in fewer shots.

Dad picked up 6 on the front and lost 2 on the back. His putting was okay but his chipping on to the green was pretty poor.

On the positive side it means we can still look forward to cutting the score next time! We are both still a good 8-10 shots over our ‘normal’ score for a round at this course.
