A Round of Golf: 15 May 2011

Apologies for the delay in writing up another round. In fact I can’t even remember if this was the Saturday or the Sunday of that weekend.

After visiting Came Down we skipped a week for whatever reason before returning to our regular haunt at Wolfedale.

Date: 15th May 2011.
Course: Wolfedale Golf Course, Charminster
Distance: 5467
Conditions: Sunny with a light shower.

On our handicap system we were tied at half-distance with a gap of ten shots in reality – I’d been leading until fluffing the 9th. Then we were essentially tied all the way to the final hole, where Dad scored a great 3 to win by a shot! Final gap: 21 points.

Last four rounds at this course (including this one):

Me: 119-119-120-120
Dad: 98-97-97-104

Consistency! We’ve been looking for consistency for months and at last we’ve found it.

We both felt we played badly but the scores don’t bear that out, my 119 was about what I had been scoring before and Dad got under 100 which has been his recent target lately. The fact we thought those scores were bad is a really promising sign because it means we are both improving! We each thought we could take a good 7 or 8 shots off our respective scores. We’ve been at the same level for a while now, but ever now and then we make a gain to a new level.. and it looks as though that’s about to happen again.

We both scores seasons’ bests on the 8th hole which is a short one of 121 yards, sat on the top of a hill. I also had a best on the 15th (the really long one!) and 17th (tricky uphill – I finally at long last got the damn thing on the fairway rather than in the rough). Dad got bests on the 10th and 18th.

Looking forward to going back.
